Tips for Selecting a Dentist

We truly believe that we are the best dental practice you can choose. However, selecting a dentist is a big decision, and we want you to make your choice with confidence. Here are some tips for selecting the right dentist for you:

  • Start with a general consultation and see if their personality meshes with yours
  • Talk to them about your goals and concerns and see if they treat them as important
  • Look into the university where the doctor got his or her degree
  • See if the dentist makes you feel like an active participant in your treatment
  • Check to see if the doctor has the right amount of experience for your comfort
  • Search for online reviews and see what others have to say

Questions about General Dentistry

If my teeth feel and look fine, why should I see the dentist every six months?

These checkups are designed to keep your teeth as healthy as possible, catching many problems before you could detect them on your own. Ultimately, preventative and early care are cheaper and less painful than waiting for things to go wrong.

How are fillings and crowns different?

Fillings are designed to replace the removed decayed area of a small portion of the tooth. If a large portion of the tooth is damaged, a crown is needed. This is a covering that fits over what remains of the tooth, protecting it.

When should children first visit the dentist?

As soon as a child has teeth, they can see the dentist. It is a good idea to start young because it helps the child avoid fear of the dentist. However, it is okay to delay first seeing a dentist until a child is three years old.

Should I replace metal fillings?

Many people prefer more modern tooth-colored fillings to amalgam ones. For some, this is a health concern, as some believe that metal fillings are dangerous. For most, it is an aesthetic issue. If you have metal fillings and they are working for you, there is no need to replace them.
